What is a mindful wardrobe?

Have you ever stood in front of your full wardrobe and felt like you had nothing to wear? And if it’s possible to create a wardrobe that contains only items you need? Or even better, a wardrobe that has functional items that make you feel like the beautiful and confident woman you are? If you have, then what you seek is a mindful wardrobe.

A mindful wardrobe is an organised wardrobe filled with apparels you love and enjoy wearing. It is a wardrobe that has a fitting item for every occasion. If you haven’t, you can read our previous blog where we talked deeper about the definition of a mindful wardrobe.

Why do I need a mindful wardrobe?

A mindful wardrobe gives you the freedom of self-expression. It is not limited by trends or fashion rules. Instead, it allows you to create what makes you feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable.

A mindful wardrobe is also efficient as it spares you long minutes standing in front of your wardrobe, wondering what you should wear. With a consciously made wardrobe, you will have clothes you need for every occasion all set to be worn.

6 Steps to Create a Mindful Wardrobe

Step 1: Self-Discovery

The better you know yourself, the better your relationship with the rest of the world.

– Toni Collette

Take out a journal and write a list of things you love about yourself and your life. We also have created for you a FREE Mindful Wardrobe Journal to help you get the best out of this important step. This list may include following questions:

  1. What do you like the most about your life right now? and why?

  2. What does happiness mean to you? How does it look like?

  3. What do you think is special about your personality? and why?

  4. What do you like the most about your the way you look and your body?

  5. When was the last time you feel really good about how you looked? Describe the actual moment and how you felt at that time.

  6. What are the things in your life that you would like to change or improve in the near future? and why is it important to see changes in these areas of your life?

When you are finished, look at this list and ask yourself; how can I improve my lifestyle so that it makes me a happier person?

Step 2: Wardrobe Journal

During the next week, take note of the outfits you wear daily. This can be for work, casual at-home outfits, hangouts with friends and family, and so on. In this journal, also write down how each outfit makes you feel. Does it make you feel happy, confident, and beautiful? Or are you uncomfortable in it? At the end of the week, separate the items that make you feel good from those that don’t. We created a detailed table for you for this one-week journaling activity in the FREE Mindful Wardrobe Journal that you can download here.

Step 3: Make a Wishlist

Using your wardrobe journal, make a list of items you want to purchase, why and how often can you wear this particular item. Remember, you’re making a mindful wardrobe hence you have to be conscious about every step. Ask yourself if these items will suit your lifestyle and how long you can make use of them.

Step 4: Research Your Wishlist

To make the process of acquiring the selected items easier and faster, make a research on them. It’s advisable that you utilize a Pinterest board for your wishlist. Find out the prices of these items and where they can be purchased.

Step 5: Budget and Planning

After carrying out your research, make a budget that is reasonable and suits your current financial situation. Be mindful during this step and push away the urge to buy more than you can afford. Next, look through your schedule, select a period to purchase the items, and stick to the plan.

Step 6: Detoxify Your Wardrobe

In most situations, you may not be able to purchase every item on your wishlist at once. This gives you enough time to detoxify your current wardrobe and make room for your new beloved items. You can use your wardrobe journal as a guide during this process and decide which items suit your ideal lifestyle and which do not.

Conclusion

When creating a mindful wardrobe, remember that you’re making a wardrobe that makes you happy. So make sure that you enjoy the process and the self-discovery that comes with it.
